Career summary

My early studies were in the arts, initiated by a love for working with clay. I graduated with a master’s degree in fine art from UCT in 2005 and worked as a visual designer and lecturer in art and digital media in the years that followed.

My undergraduate psychology studies were through UNISA, followed by an honour’s degree at UCT in 2017. My clinical experience started with an addiction counselling internship at the Cape Town Drug Counselling Centre in 2018, where I fulfilled the clinical hours of a postgraduate diploma in addictions, obtained through UCT in 2019. I qualified with an MA degree in clinical psychology through Stellenbosch University in 2022, following a 1-year internship at Lentegeur Psychiatric Hospital and Strand Community Health Clinic. My community service year was served at Mitchells Plain District Hospital from 2023–2024. From here, I started my practice and worked at an inpatient addiction treatment clinic, then shifting to running my practice full-time 14 months later.

I have trained in compassionate inquiry, Gabor Maté's trauma and addiction-focused therapeutic approach; completed the Trauma Research Foundation’s certificate programme in traumatic stress studies, led by Bessel van der Kolk; and qualified as a brainspotting practitioner through Brainspotting UK. I am currently engaged in Peter Levine's somatic experiencing practitioner training.

I am analytical as well as philosophically minded, and enjoy pursuing both breadth and depth in learning. My research experience is grounded in the fields of philosophy, art theory and discourse, neuropsychology and contemplative science.

My curiosity and, frankly, love for psychological subject matter has driven my informal and formal studies in the field over the last twenty years. Moreover, raising children has been an invaluable teacher to me on the curious phenomenon that is the human being.
