All differences in this world are of degree, and not of kind, because oneness is the secret of everything.

Neurodiversity affirming

We live in a time when the way that we think about neurodivergence is changing. Deficit, disability, and disorder related ways of thinking about the spectrums of difference human beings exist on are starting to be phased out.

That is not to say that there is not a good deal of challenge in being spectrumy, because our systems still place unmeetable demands on neurodivergent people, who many times grow up thinking that there is something fundamentally wrong with them. Neurodivergent traits can be misunderstood and neurodivergent people are sometimes misdiagnosed, creating further challenge and confusion.

Developing insight into oneself in light of one's neurodivergence is the beginning of shedding the layers of misunderstanding and self blame that have resulted from trying to be something that one is not. It is also the start of claiming a new identity and learning to support oneself with one's unique quirks and differences, and discovering the hidden possibilities that they hold.
